2026 Theme: As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord
Having been dramatically rescued from cruel Egyptian bondage and triumphantly led into the Promised Land, the Lord recounts his faithful and gracious actions (Joshua 24:1-13). Being mindful of all that they have received from the sovereign Lord over all creation, Joshua challenges the nation to wisely choose whom they will worship. Setting an example for others to follow, Joshua declares that he and his family will serve the Lord.
Like ancient Israel, we have also been delivered from the domain of darkness and transferred into the kingdom of God’s beloved Son through his boundless mercy. Since forgetfulness of his blessings and slipping into idolatry (something/someone becomes more important than God) are real temptations for us today, let's resolve as biological and spiritual families to serve the Lord at all times and in every way.

Writing as a spiritual father to his true child in the faith (1 Timothy 1:2), the apostle Paul articulates the Spirit-shaped, Jesus-like benchmark of character that distinguishes us as God's family. That naturally and necessarily starts at home. In fact, how well we manage our own household serves as the litmus test for anyone who aspires to lead in the household of God (1 Timothy 3:5, 12).
So here's the first family rule that Paul establishes for Timothy and the rest of us: the priority of faithfulness to our biological family and the privilege of stewardship in our spiritual household are intertwined.

Being united in Christ, we are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit (Ephesians 2:22). Graciously and collectively, the Father resides in us through the indwelling presence of his Spirit by virtue of our shared allegiance to his Son. So as a sacred temple of the Holy Spirit, we can now glorify God in all that we are and all that we do through the Lord Jesus Christ.
