Embracing the story that is now being written by every individual who belongs to our Bread of Life family…
We are forever indebted to the godly pioneers who stepped out in faith and with conviction, following God’s vision and leadership, to establish our church on January 1, 1967. Originally meeting at a personal residence and then at a neighborhood park clubhouse, we eventually settled into our spiritual home in Torrance on Kent Avenue (just south of Sepulveda) for more than three decades. In the spring of 2002, we relocated to our present location on Lomita Boulevard. This new, larger facility opened the doors for us to expand our ministry as well as launch a preschool, kindergarten, after school care, and summer day camp (Bread of Life Christian Children’s Center) to educate and enrich children from our church as well as our community.
In addition to the willing and courageous trailblazers who laid the foundation of our ministry, we feel immense gratitude for all who have utilized their God-given talents, invested their precious time and resources, and poured their hearts into serving the God that we love and worship to grow our ministry. Whether it’s leading individuals to faith in Jesus, teaching children, leading students, working with adults in every life stage, gathering to worship God and study the Bible, exploring what it means to be a real disciple of Jesus, creating opportunities for mentoring, participating in God’s work in different parts of our world, partnering with local ministries and organizations that assist underserved communities, caring for those who have endured personal losses, or being stretched and refreshed through our annual conferences — what we do as the church of God flows out of who we are as the body of Christ.
As we cherish the ministry staff and leadership team that God has assembled, we affirm that our whole body grows stronger and matures deeper as each part does its work.
Over the course of more than half a century, God has graciously enabled our ministry to flourish into a multi-congregational (Mandarin, English, and Cantonese), multi-cultural (representing a variety of ethnicities and countries of origin), multi-generational, truly diverse community that unites in our allegiance to Jesus as the head of our church. Quite frankly, things have not always been smooth for our church. And we realize that there will always be bumps and challenges down the road. In the midst of all this, we humbly praise God for his faithfulness and patience toward us, even in the face of our own shortcomings and failures. On top of everything, we recognize our daily need for God’s wisdom, trusting him to carry on to completion the work that he’s begun in us.
While we appreciate our heritage and celebrate our progress, we embrace and welcome the story that is now being written by every individual who belongs to our Bread of Life family. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, we pray that God will bless our church as we honor Jesus in all that we are and do, seeking to be a vibrant community of believers that makes disciples in every nation.
