Dear Bread of Life Family,
We park a little bit further than needed. We opt for the stairs instead of the elevator. We enjoy the company of friends on a trail or along the Strand. Whatever way we do it, it’s always good to take more steps. Walking is the most practical and accessible form of exercise that many of us enjoy daily.
It makes total sense then that the New Testament writers often use the language of walking to describe what God expects from us as Spirit-dependent disciples of Jesus. Since the beginning of this year, we have encouraged each other to walk by the Spirit (Galatians 5:16). If we lean into the Spirit’s presence, we will conquer our fleshly desires. In fact, we will grow in likeness to God’s Son if we keep in step with God’s Spirit. That translates into fidelity in our worship, purity in our relationships, unity in our church, and integrity in our witness.
As a servant-leader in our church, I am especially grateful for the steps that you take as a member of God’s household. In addition to walking into our sanctuary or large classroom for worship, I want to personally encourage you to spend your entire Sunday mornings with us.
For those who worship at 9:15 am, that means either attending one of our Sunday School classes at 11:15 am or serving our students with your Spirit-shaped talents (children or youth). For those who worship in our later service at 11:15 am, that means coming earlier to share your life experience by helping with our nursery or children’s worship at 9:15 am.
Either way, we are truly blessed by your presence with us. I realize that many of you already carve out your whole Sunday morning to be with us. For others, I’m asking you to step up to give a double portion of yourselves—which I am confident will lead to a double blessing for both you as well as our entire church family.
I am so in awe of God’s goodness and grace that we could walk together as brothers and sisters in Christ.
